Included in the collection is a "hoppered" gold crystal, 3.82 oz. troy, 6.0 x 4.0 x 2.3 cm. Smithsonian's National Gem Collection The stunning 168 carat Colombian emerald in the Mackay Necklace is the largest cut emerald in the National Gem Collection. Inclusions of the mineral parisite in the emerald indicate that it was most likely found at the Muzo mine, Colombia. It is set in an art deco diamond and platinum necklace designed by Cartier, Inc. In 1931, Clarence H. Mackay presented the necklace as a wedding gift to his wife, Anna Case - a prima donna of the New York Metropolitan Opera from 1909 to 1920. The necklace was left to the National Gem Collection as a bequest of Mrs. Anna Case Mackay in 1984. Another view of the necklace.
